There are many Skat meanings floating around. Each teacher of this system brings additional information which is passed on by someone else. Stay consistent with an open mind. I usually settle for what works for the type of cartomancer I am. I like to explore but I always bring my knowledge and experiences into my teachings.

May 1, 2015. I started to write about the 7’s at my original blog Ask my Cards, so I will expand a bit on the meanings here. I will be detailing them individually. That way you can follow along…

The 7’s

7 HEARTS:  Card of love in its beginning stages. It can be a new fondness for a person or thing. A good feeling. If you asked does he/she love me and this card was the result/outcome card it would suggest the person does have warm feelings for you.

This lower 7 contains energy of the heart suit which has a miniature influence. For example, the person can be experiencing happiness but it would not be on a large-scale or full-blown. You can be happy and then you can be really, really happy. There is a difference. The fondness from a person feels good but a deeper love would feel great if that is something you are hoping will develop.

Many times the 7♥ can represent a secret admirer.

7 CLUBS:  Card of minor loss, tears, depression etc. It is short-term and does not last a long time. (Modern meanings would tie this card with communication and news.) If you asked will he/she contact me this card would indicate brief communication which most likely won’t be all that pleasant.

More appropriate meaning for clubs. (Modern meaning would suggest commonplace conversation. It would be two friends talking over dinner plans or which movie they should go and see.)

7 DIAMONDS:  Card of money connected to job, work, occupation. It’s a little bit of money. If you asked if you will get a better paying job this card suggests yes, but not much more money.

This card is a positive answer to a financial question but it’s not really anything to get excited about. It can also mean you may have to “work” at something a little harder. The 7 can indicate an improvement in finances but it’s a baby step.

Within this card is a promise of a small amount of money coming your way. It can be a refund, a gift card or rebate. Don’t expect a lot of money. In love questions, it can suggest a minor issue over money.

7 SPADES: Card of slight warning. This card suggests some annoyance happening fast. It’s main meaning is one of caution because lies or envious people can be involved. Someone in plotting against you.

(The original 7♣ ‘s meaning would fit in here much better.) If you asked whether he/she is faithful to you this card indicates the person should not be fully trusted.

This card is all about a stumbling block but different from the 7♣. There is more of a negative energy involved like someone else’s motives to prevent you from moving forward in some situation. In work questions, you could experience some competition for a new job. The person competing has ties to the person doing the hiring. Minor underhand tactics.

In love questions, this cards suggests that things will move along really slow. In many cases, the person you are interested in is hiding something which can create some additional pressure. It’s not a big deal but unsettling.

If this card was beside a Court card, that person does not have your best interest at heart in regards to your question. If this card is in the middle of two Courts those two people may have a small unexpected argument.

If per chance you have group of 7’s together in the layout you can expect short-term and minor influences affecting the question. These are the wee cards of the system. They are annoyances. If a high pip card follows what was minor turns into something huge. Study the suit carefully.

There are various versions on how to read the Skat cards. Many Skat cartomancers know the common meanings for each card and as with all systems the individual adds various findings via experience, word of mouth and research. I do not think there are any ‘hard rules’ except in the actual game of Skat.
I remember some interesting comments on the cards from childhood. My parents use to play Skat when we first came to Canada. They had little sayings about the court cards which interestingly are some common meanings.

May 15, 2015: The Skat 8’s
The Skat fortune telling system usually contains pips 7-10, Ace, King, Queen, Jack. All 2’s through 6’s are removed prior to shuffle. The image features one of my German Skat decks. The little set is actually for the game because inside the leather case is a pad and pencil. I use it to jot down cards I am studying. The pad of paper can be easily replaced with a little booklet as long as it opens bottom to top. The dollar or two stores carry them.

The 7’s were all about minimum energy or influences from each suit. The 8’s increase that energy so that it is not so one-pointed. In the 7’s the influence usually affects the person more directly but not to any major degree. The 8’s spread their wings but they are still remain minor influences which involves more than of a sharing of that influence.
➡ After studying the meanings of the clubs and spades which were given to me by the elderly Hungarian lady I have switched the meanings to bring them more in keeping with the modern view of the clubs and spades. I feel the meanings are more appropriate and will be easier to learn. This way there is less confusion.  I, for one, associate clubs with communication and more of an active energy. Also, the spades suit tends to be more challenging.
8A card of stable emotional influence.  It can minimize other minor negative cards, however, it cannot influences the high ill meaning cards. Emotional gratification. Beside a court card it will give the person a wonderful disposition.
Hearts are all about love, emotions and relationships. It is the ‘feeling’ suit. Feelings aren’t always positive so if this card is hammered by an ill meaning club or spade the experience could turn to jealousy, dissatisfaction, little appreciation and so on.
For example, if you are dealing with a minor delay and this 8 appears with that card (follows it) the delay is not a big deal.
If you ask a financial or work question and this card is last you will be satisfied but won’t be overjoyed about it. It’s still a good influence that gives satisfaction to those involved.
In love questions, the other person you are asking about most likely returns positive feelings.  Let’s suppose you have a number of more negative cards and this card is last in the layout there is a strong indication things will work out.
8 The message card. Anything to do with communications- the card beside it will give a hint as to the nature of the news. A letter, report, application, form, document etc.
On its own it doesn’t give you results or if the message is good or bad. This card works in conjunction with the others.
In love questions, you know you will receive a  message and if a court follows that person is involved. If a well meaning suit follows the news is favourable. If an ill meaning card follows chances are the message won’t be to your liking.
8Another work card but the field would involve finances or travel to some degree. A moderately positive card for work. It depicts some money coming in and the achievement of work related goals.
When this card answers a work question you can expect some improvements. You may receive an opportunity to changes jobs.
In love questions, this card indicates some mutual work which needs to be done in a relationship. When coupled with a court card it could describe the person as being financially responsible. He/she could even work with numbers.
8 Small illness. Agitation and uneasiness. This card prevents the smooth flow of a situation. Expect brief delays. A block.
This card depicts trivial upsets. Within this card is a setback but not a very huge one. It can be something simple as being held up in traffic or waiting for a package. It can indicate your date will be late in picking you up.
If you are expecting an answer from someone and this card is beside the Court representing the person’s characteristics you can expect a delay.
Often there it is just a card of not feeling well but the influence is not long lasting.

Feb 6, 2019: I just realized that I did not include the Skat 9’s May 12, 2015 post in the Skat category. Below is the original post with a few typo corrections.
When using this style of system with little pictorial aid you can enhance your psychic abilities or at the very least hone your interpretative skills. Simple basic meanings need to be linked together to tell a story. Sometimes when you tell that story you may visualize people or things. Sometimes you hear a name. Often you see something in the patterns of the suit glyphs.
The 9 cards have strong influences but are not as powerful as the 10’s.

NINES
9The wish. This card is all about feeling and caring. It will tell you if your wish will come true based on the card beneath or to the right of it.
For the most part, this card is well-known as being the wish card. It’s always a good card. The only time the 9 isn’t favourable is when it is followed by one of the higher pip cards, namely a spade.
In love questions you would want to see this card coupled with a court card representing you or the object of your desires. When a lower spade follows, you may experience a delay in your wish-fulfillment.
The 9♥ brings friendship energy as well.
9This card does represent a challenge but not in the same way as the spade. Sometimes a person’s own imagination creates worries. There can be some confusion and doubts with communication. This 9 brings a little mud to the adjoining cards. Miscommunication.
If you are expecting some news and the 9 ends the layout your answer or message will not be crystal clear. You will still have some doubts.
In love questions, this card is telling you that you are worrying about the situation without much foundation. You may be experiencing insecurity within yourself. Take a different perspective to prevent a further unhealthy attitude.
9 Another money card. It can also signify monetary gifts or things of value. The card brings good influences and increases in the layout. Opportunities arise for a better paying job. Often it is a card of inheriting something.  A substantial win.
In love situations this 9 suggests that you are appreciated and valued. You could be the recipient of a really nice gift. Next to a court card which is not your Significator card it reveals the person that is involved in this gift giving or job opportunity.
In work questions, you can expect positive improvements. If you want a raise you will probably get it. If you applied for another position the 9 promises that you will secure it. Within this card is recognition or awareness so that means your hard work is noted.
9 The card of negativity. Sickness. Grief. In this we have an influence that is quite challenging. A card of caution. Family problems.
When this card is near your Significator study the cards following the 9. This will reveal how this card will play out. You may need to be still and wait for a prediction to unfold.
Often there is an illness associated with influence. You may get a virus or experience some medical issue. Keep this message in mind but don’t dwell on it unless there are other indicators that may hint at something more serious. Stress can affect your well-being.
With love questions there is a warning not to expect too much. You could be experiencing challenges in a relationship. The card that follows will tell you whether this challenge is met and overcome. If no card follows expect some turbulence in the days or weeks to follow.
Often this card points to a problem in the family. A court card will reveal who might be involved. It can be a relative experiencing these challenges and somehow you get involved or affected.
Below is an example of 5 card reading using the simple key words. You already know the meanings of 3 of the cards.
Question: Is there someone special coming into J’s (male) life within 6 months?
9♠ + Q♦ + AS (upright) + 8♦ + 7♥
-challenges + co-worker/fun loving female + large institution + work/travel + fondness
Using just the basic meanings the cards show a female coming into J’s life. At first they will not hit it off. The Q might be having issues or holding on to some tough emotions from a previous experience. They’ll probably meet in a work related environment. She might work at a hospital or educational facility. There will be a fondness between the two eventually. The 7 promises the beginning stages of a relationship.  How easy was that. 🙂
I think all the Skat cards are now covered. I’ll check after I upload this post.

TENS
10♥ The marriage card. Commitments of all sorts. This card indicates love in relationships. There is a harmonious flow of energy between individuals.
In love questions, this 10 suggests there are very strong emotions between the people. If both court cards look at the 10♥ the feelings are mutual. Even if the court card is further away from this 10 but looks in its directions it would still indicate strength of emotions. In such a situation, marriage or love may be secondary issue to the individual if at a distance from each other.
There are several ways to read the 10♥ when coupled with a court card. It can point to a married person. It can suggest the individual has marriage on his/her mind. In some cases, it depicts an actual marriage proposal.
In work questions, this 10♥ can actually describe aspects of the job. It does suggest the love of one’s career or type of work.
10♣ The discussion card primarily among between several individuals. Business success. This card can bring additional worries when combined with other cards suggesting problems.
Falling beside a court card it will indicate the person is a good conversationalist. He/she could talk too much which can trigger a lively debate.
In love questions, this card promises communication is forthcoming or at least welcome. The result of the connection is revealed by the card following the 10♣.
In work questions, the energy is high and does show major accomplishments.
I don’t associate ♣’s as being the ‘bad’ suit.
10♦ The card of financial change. Incoming large amount of money. This can cover many areas such as a windfall, a winning ticket, a bonus check, an unexpected gift of money etc.
The best money card. It is high money. What this means is that there will be a increase in your financial situation. There could be substantial inlay of funds. The question is what does substantial mean to you. Every person views money differently. One thousand dollars is a fortune to some people and to others it’s a drop in the bucket.
In work situations, you can be confident that you will get a big raise. You will land that good paying job. Look for a court card – it could be your new employer or a person responsible for this opportunity.
With love questions, money is the least of your problems. You could meet a well to do man or woman. The person may be gainfully employed and be financially generous.
If a number of ◊’s fall together there is a good chance you will “inherit” some money or experience a stroke of exceptional good luck.
10♥ The card of travel usually connected to a necessity. The common meaning is grief and tears. In the olden days it depicted imprisonment which can be read as being stuck in a situation. A major change- much depends are neighboring cards.
If you question involves the timing of events the 10♠ means you will have to wait a long time for an answer.
When coupled with a court card the person could be at a distance or involved in travel.
Let’s suppose the 10♠’s is in the middle of two court cards (2 Jacks) this can suggest problems between brothers or buddies. If one is a King and the other a Jack it can be a father and son that are discussing travel plans. The card following (if there is one) will reveal the results.
The 10 of spades requires careful study when combined with other cards. More times than not it is a major setback or change.

QUEENS
Feb 16, 2019: The final card (I missed in the original posts) of the Skat fortune-telling cards system.
Q ♥The card of the female asking the cards a question. A close lady friend, the partner of the K , the woman of the household. She is sensitive, giving and full of affection. You can rely on her.
Q ♣The card of the female relative. The mother, grandmother, in-law, the “other” woman. She tends to be more emotionally indifferent than the Q. She can be the a widow , old woman, wife of a friend or even the cashier at your favorite store. Her personality is reserved and she is not overly friendly.
Q ♦The card of the fair-haired woman. She is a sister, girlfriend, co-worker, woman with good financial know how. This card is the partner of the K but more on a business or fun level.
Q ♠The card of the dark-haired woman. She is an aunt, aging woman, co-worker, in-law, someone’s wife. This card brings loyalty to a relationship with fulfilled obligations. She is the type of female that is a hard worker.

KINGS
K H The card of the man asking for the reading. The family man. He is generally married and has a loving disposition. He is your buddy whom you can count on. He has coaching ability and will lend a helping hand.
K C The card of the male relative. He is a father, in-law, grandfather and in many cases your enemy-competitor. He is emotionally cool as the Q. This card can represent an older man, the “other” man, widower, someone who is divorced. In some cases he will be connected to medicine or law. This King is the decision maker.
K D The card of the lighter haired man. He is a brother, reliable friend, a son, business associate. His friendship is honest and he is very knowledgeable about what’s going on in the world. This King represents information and brings news.
K S The card of the darker haired man. He can be an uncle, co-worker, experienced man, in-law. Usually he is married. He can be the obnoxious neighbour. His personality is stern but he will help you if he feels you are genuinely in need. He is in control in his chosen occupation.

ACES
A H The card of the home. This Ace covers many categories such as family, friends, property or issues that involve the home you live in. It can suggest any dwelling. Usually it is a place your call home so if you live in trailer – that’s it. At times it will point to a hotel or a variety of buildings.
A  C Decisions. Ideas. The card of authority- legal matters, papers, contracts.
A D The card of occupational connections. This card brings $$ luck to the adjoining cards. An increase of money is shown. Often a piece of jewelry like a ring.
A S The card of large institutions such as court, hospitals, educational facilities, high-profile offices. REVERSED: Divorce, death and terminal illness.
Should the Ace of Spades appear reversed with one or more other red Aces in the layout it will minimize the ‘good’ of the red Aces.
